Errol J. Philip, Ph.D., recognizes that for parents trying to avoid candy and junk food, Halloween can mean weeks of constant temptation at home and even at work. With this in mind, he recommends some easy strategies to help avoid eating too much candy, and at the same time avoid the wrath of your children.
The easiest first step is to keep bags of candy and chocolate out of sight. Keep these bags in a cupboard that you don’t access often, or even on a higher shelf to make it harder to just grab a handful as you walk through the kitchen. Secondly, if you are trying to maintain a healthy diet during this holiday period, make a trip to the store to purchase some of your favorite healthier snack options. If these are easily at hand, then there will be less temptation to eat candy and deplete your children’s Halloween takings.
