The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) is dedicated to the scientific understanding and treatment of psychological problems. Membership in our organization is ideal for those who are committed to the understanding and amelioration of problems of the human condition through the investigation and application of behavioral, cognitive, and other evidence-based principles to assessment, prevention, and treatment.
Membership is open to all persons who agree with the purposes and objectives of ABCT and who are in good standing of either the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the National Association of Social Workers, or possess other acceptable qualifications and experience, and who are: (1) practicing clinicians; (2) engaged in research or other activities pertinent to the development and advancement of cognitive and behavioral therapies; or (3) interested in acquiring professional knowledge and competence in some aspect of the cognitive behavioral therapies with a view toward eventual participation.
Several benefits are afforded to our members to facilitate acquisition of professional knowledge and competence in general aspects of the cognitive and behavioral therapies. However, our members also benefit from access to an extraordinarily robust and active Special Interest Community, delving into treatment approaches, populations, and specific disorders.

Q: I want to become a member, but I'd like to pay online. Do I also need to send the PDF application?
A: No. A payment submitted online or with your PDF application serves the same purpose. If you do pay online, here's information you do need to send separately, by mail, or by FAX to 212-647-1865 or by EMAIL to membership@abct.org.
- Full members - proof of licensure if you intend to enroll in Find a CBT Therapist.

- Students - proof of enrollment in the form of a student ID, letter from your advisor or department head.
Q: I'd like to join, but I don't know the applicable membership category.
A: We provide a description of each membership category in the online store and on the PDF application, but if you still have concerns, contact Sue Bezares, Membership Services Associate at 212-647-1890 x.212 or sbezares@abct.org.
Q: I'm paid through the current membership year and would like to attend your upcoming convention at member rates. Why do I have to pay membership for the upcoming year to receive the preferred rates?
A: The ABCT membership year is from November 1 to October 31 of the following year; the annual convention typically takes place within this period. In order to receive the member rates for convention registration, you must be a
member for the period in which the convention takes place.
Q: How do I edit my membership information?
A: Sign in at the ABCT homepage using the Member Log In button at the top left of the page. Once you are signed in, click on the orange button labeled My Member Account on the left.
Make your changes and save. The information will populate the Membership Directory and for professional members, the Find a CBT Therapist data.
