Enhanced Cognitive-Behavioral Couple Therapy, The Role of the Individual: Cognitive-behavioral couple therapy
(CBCT) is an empirically supported intervention that has been shown to assist distressed couples. Dr. Baucom explores an enhanced model that gives major consideration to the individuals in the relationship, the environment, and the couple's communication skills. This presention emphasizes how to integrate important aspects of individual functioning into CBCT. It demonstrates how normal individual differences regarding the need or desire for intimacy between well-adjusted partners can lead to repetitive interactive cycles that contribute to distress. It includes strategies for integrating well-validated interventions, such as exposure and response prevention, into CBCT for a couple in which the wife has obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
