ABCT Listserve

The Objectives of ABCT’s List Serve:

This list serve provides an opportunity for the worldwide membership of ABCT to disseminate and share ideas and information concerning behavioral and cognitive-behavioral analysis, assessment, and therapy, broadly conceived.

The list is open to all members of ABCT. The list serve members will determine the topics of discussion. All list serve members are encouraged to be active participants. Committed groups of behavioral and cognitive-behavioral psychology professionals willing to share their ideas and interests will contribute to a vital and active list serve.

Rules and Regulations of the List serve:

All members of ABCT are automatically part of the list serve. If you wish to unsubscribe, you may contact Lisa Yarde at lyarde@abct.org; she will remove your name from the list serve. Please allow approximately 10 days for this to take effect, although, in most cases, it will be sooner.

Our rules are simple, and are meant to promote useful and respectful interaction among professionals.

  1. Be courteous.
  2. The discussions on the lists are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Differences of opinion should be expressed in a professional manner.
  3. Keep messages as brief as possible (e.g., only "repost" essential text from previous postings.
  4. Use "subject" lines that are as informative as possible.
  5. When the purpose of a message is not clear from the subject line, or if the message is fairly long, write a brief (10-25 word) abstract at the beginning of the message so that readers can determine whether your posting is relevant to their interests.
  6. Direct messages or replies to the forum sub-lists only when you believe they will be of wide interest, otherwise, direct them to individual e-mail addresses.
  7. Be constructive and encouraging.
  8. Remember that this is an international forum, thus be sensitive to cultural, religious, and racial issues so that messages will not be misinterpreted.
  9. Offer comments that are collegial in tone, without unprofessional behavior or hostility (i.e. ad hominem personal attacks or any other malevolent behavior.) Libel (written information intended to harm another person’s reputation) and slander (falsely spoken information which damages another) are prohibited.
  10. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited.
  11. Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the lists is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
  12. As ABCT is a not-for-profit and tax-exempt organization, the list serve is to be used as a forum for the abovementioned aims and purposes (i.e. sharing of professional/scientific information) and not as a means of electioneering, advancing personal or another’s professional gain, advertising professional services, or for any other personal or monetary profit/gain.
  13. Do not post commercial messages. The cyberspace term for this is spamming. Contact people directly with products and services that you believe would help them.
  14. ABCT retains the right to reproduce postings to this list serve.
  15. Do not post any information or material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner.
  16. Under no circumstances may list serve members discuss pricing issues or any issues that would violate antitrust laws (e. g., a discussion of hourly fees is not permitted because it may violate antitrust law).
  17. When discussing Clinical Issues, client confidentiality must be maintained.
