Purpose: ABCT Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors promote the Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Therapies by engaging in activities which advance participation, membership and identity with the association at the local level.
ABCT Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors actively discuss the organization with students and unaffiliated faculty or colleagues.
a. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors encourage association membership among unaffiliated students, faculty, and colleagues by being able to articulate membership benefits and facilitating joining through the organization's web site.
b. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors promote convention attendance by being able to describe activities and benefits of attending. Ambassadors disclose convention related information such as dates, location, deadlines and guidelines for submission to interested parties.
ABCT Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors serve as role models through active participation in the association.
a. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors engage in association related activities. They are able to use and demonstrate the ABCT website and its associated features. They may participate in ABCT as a member in the organization's committee and governance structure, by authoring publications in association related periodicals, and/or through convention attendance, workshop participation, or presentations.
b. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors mentor participation in the annual convention by assisting interested parties attend and present at the meeting. This may be accomplished by guiding individuals through the pre-registration and on-line submission processes and does not require the Ambassador or Student Ambassador attend every convention.
ABCT Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors act as the "eyes & ears" of the association locally.
a. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors answer relevant questions and concerns about the association. They give relevant feedback to the organization regarding local perceptions of the association and make suggestions regarding future activities.
b. ABCT Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors do not represent the organization beyond their local institutional affiliation or outside the activities discussed in these guidelines. Specifically, the Ambassador or Student Ambassador may not represent or speak for the organization in public settings or in the media, beyond these guidelines, without the explicit permission of the ABCT Board of Directors.
The ABCT Ambassador and Student Ambassador are recognized officially by the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Board of Directors.
a. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors receive and, when relevant, locally distribute traditional and electronic mailings from the organization.
b. Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors may be recognized as such in a special listing on our website, annually in the Behavior Therapist and/or at the annual convention by wearing special "ABCT Ambassador" ribbons.
