White House Announces 2024 Strategy for Suicide Prevention
Suicide is an urgent and ever-present public health crisis; with more than a million suicide attempts annually. To combat this, The Biden Administration created the 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention and accompanying Federal Action Plan, which seeks to build a coordinated approach to suicide prevention at the national, state, tribal, local, and territorial levels.
The Action Plan includes funding a mobile crisis locator and prioritizes populations that are disproportionately vulnerable to suicide, including veterans, people with disabilities, underserved racial and ethnic populations, and LGBTQA+ populations, among others.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is effective at reducing the rates of suicide. For more information about risk factors, prevention, and other resources on suicide, please see our suicide fact sheet.
Further information on suicide can be found in our Suicide Briefing Book.
