Committee Purpose

The Awards and Recognition Committee develops and administers a cohesive awards and recognition program to highlight and support the achievements of educators and trainers, scientists, clinicians, and other individuals and organizations for their work in promoting cognitive behavioral assessment and treatment. The Awards and Recognition Committee solicits nominations for then nominates candidates for appropriate awards and recognition to the ABCT Board of Directors and CEO. New awards are approved only by vote of the Board of Directors. The Chair of this committee shall serve a three-year term.

Benchmark 2024-2025
  • A ‘Call for Awards’ is sent out to the general membership about the awards categories which are actively accepting nominations, the process by which nominations can be made, and the date by which nominations are due.
  • ABCT members volunteer to be on the Awards & Recognition Committee. Membership on the Awards & Recognition Committee also requires membership on one of the three subcommittees (Dissertation; Student Travel; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Student Convention Pass).
  • The Awards & Recognition Committee is responsible for reviewing all nomination materials, discussing potential candidates for awards (as needed), voting for the best candidate in each awards category, and then making recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval.
  • All awards are presented at the Awards Ceremony during the ABCT Annual Convention in November.
  • The Awards & Recognition Committee is in the process of developing and piloting rubrics for all of the award categories. There are active rubrics for the Student Dissertation and Student Travel Awards. Rubrics have been developed for 8 additional award categories, with 3 being active this past awards cycle and successfully piloted. The committee will continue to develop rubrics so all can be piloted in the 2025-2026 awards cycles. The DEI Subcommittee reviews these rubrics prior to the pilot run.
