ABCT Fellows Status

A Fellowship status is a high honor bestowed by ABCT to distinguished members. Fellows of ABCT shall be full members in good standing who have made outstanding and sustained contributions to the following areas of consideration: practice, science, training, dissemination, program development, policy/advocacy and equity, inclusion, and diversity considerations of behavioral and cognitive therapies, and service to ABCT. A high level of competence or steady and continuing contributions are not sufficient solely to warrant Fellow status. ABCT is committed to equity, inclusion, and supporting diversity in Fellow status, across all diversity dimensions; we encourage applications from all eligible members, with attention to encouragement of under-represented groups among those considered for and receiving Fellowship status. When relevant, applicants are invited to describe in all pertinent areas how their work in cognitive and behavioral services has benefitted diverse and underserved communities and populations or that address systemic barriers to equity. One’s identification as a member of an underrepresented community can also be put forth to provide evidence of an applicant’s contributions within their immediate and broader context.

To demonstrate outstanding contributions or performance in behavioral and cognitive therapies, the applicant must meet all criteria listed below and provide evidence of all reported accomplishments.

Major Criteria for ABCT Fellows Status for Members

  1. Receipt of a terminal graduate degree (e.g., Ph.D., Psy.D., M.D., M.A./M.S., MFT, MSW) in a field related to behavioral and cognitive therapies or related area
  2. Full (not student) membership in ABCT for at = 10 years (does not have to be continuous).
  3. At least = 15 years of acceptable professional experience subsequent to receiving the graduate degree.
  4. Clear evidence of outstanding and distinctive contributions to behavioral and cognitive therapies or related areas that are recognized by others as excellent
  5. Evidence documenting impact beyond the immediate setting in which the nominee works.
  6. Active engagement at the time of the member’s application for fellow status in the Advancement of Behavioral and or Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).
  7. Service to ABCT should be included, if relevant, but it is not itself sufficient
